Kohls Distribution Center

Plainfield, IN

NDBS engineered complete HVAC systems for this distribution warehouse and adjoining office space. The project was a renovation of an existing warehouse. Kohls wanted to maintain even temperatures with minimal stratification throughout the warehouse. The facility had an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) that was filled with product from floor to ceiling, so NDBS determined that an air rotation system would be best suited to meet the customer’s request. The system consisted of (6) 120-ton ARU’s with split DX condensing units and natural gas heat exchangers along with (3) destratification ARU’s to maintain proper air distribution. The facility required a 4-level pick module that is manually operated by personnel on each level. In order to provide a comfortable work environment, NDBS designed a cooling system utilizing duct distribution from DX packaged rooftop units and pick module fans strategically located to provide conditioned air to the occupants on each level. The main office was designed as a variable air volume system served by (2) DX Packaged Rooftop units and VAV terminal units with electric reheat for zone control. The shipping and receiving office areas are served by Single Zone Packaged DX Rooftop units. The computer rooms are served by (4) 5-ton Liebert split systems for temperature and humidity control. All HVAC systems were controlled by a full building automation system.
