This design-build project consisted of a new produce and meat processing and distribution facility in Rhode Island. The project totals over 79,000 square feet and consists of refrigerated prep and packaging areas, product freezer and cooler, refrigerated cold dock, two-level main office, and a cash & carry retail store.
NDBS designed and built the refrigeration and HVAC systems for the facility tailored to the client’s requirements. The refrigeration systems for the prep and packaging areas are low-profile, low-velocity evaporators to maximize human comfort while working in the 36°F space. The freezer, cooler, and cold docks areas are served by large, high-profile evaporators with quiet fan technology to minimize noise pollution, all with roof-mounted condensing units. The main office is served by a variable volume packaged rooftop unit with multiple variable volume terminal units to maximize comfort and flexibility.
NDBS also designed and built the underfloor frost protection system for the 15,000-square-foot freezer which utilizes an electric heater to warm a glycol solution to maintain the freezer sub slab above freezing to prevent slab heave.
