Project Solar consists of 750,000 SF of manufacturing, office, and lab space for the final assembly of solar panels in an existing building in Mesquite, Texas. The manufacturing space is supported by three (3) 500-ton Daikin air-cooled chillers and three (3) 843-ton cooling towers providing cooling water, six (6) 240-ton Johnson Marcraft Air Rotation Units and twelve (12) 140-ton Daikin Air Cooled Condensing Units supplying ventilation, heating, and cooling, and four (4) Ingersoll Rand Air Cooled Air Compressors with Dryers to operate the manufacturing machines.

The project schedule was condensed because the owner is using an existing building. From the date of HVAC award, NDBS had only 6 months to have the first manufacturing line ready for commissioning by the owner including HVAC and plumbing design, BIM 3D coordination, equipment procurement, temporary equipment rentals, underground HVAC and plumbing install, and above ground process exhaust, compressed air, plumbing, and HVAC scope.
An additional challenge was the goal of minimizing the footprint of our equipment to eliminate the need for truss reinforcement in the existing building. The unique approach of utilizing two, dual-circuit condensing units and consolidating the footprint of what traditionally would have been two primary air systems into three pieces of equipment allowed us to achieve the owner’s goal.
