UNFI - Denver

United Natural Foods, a national distributor of natural and organic foods, added a new distribution center and truck maintenance facility in Aurora, Colorado. NDBS worked with Arco Design/Build to design and install the HVAC systems at the facility. The building consists of 42,000 square feet of office space that is conditioned using packaged VAV rooftop units and parallel fan terminal units for zone control. The 500,000 square feet of warehouse space is heated in the winter through the use of direct-fired make up air units and ventilated in the summer using roof-mounted exhaust fans interlocked with wall louvers and integral actuated dampers. These highly efficient systems helped the owner achieve a LEED Gold certification by US Green Building Council. This project interior build-out was completed in just three months, an astonishing construction schedule. Inclement weather and unexpected site conditions put the project nearly three months behind, yet the students were able to move in at the start of the fall semester as originally scheduled.
